On Wednesday 15th May, the Year 4 team travelled to Wrekin along with 43 other teams from across the Midlands. So strong is maths within this cohort that the school was confident enough to enter three pairs, all of whom finished within the top 14. Yet it was ‘West House B’ who ultimately came out on top, ensuring that the school finished first overall. Well done to all of the boys involved and, in particular, to Otis Lee and Jacob Lissauer.
Not to be outdone, on Thursday 23rd May eight boys from Years 5 and 6 took part in the Quiz Club Maths Challenge regional heat at Blue Coat School. Grappling with a variety of questions ranging from mental arithmetic to advanced problem solving, the boys spent much of the challenge sitting on the heels of the leaders before storming into the lead in the final rounds. Once in front, they were not going to surrender the lead easily and held on by a narrow margin, largely thanks to the brilliance of Adi Ray who was described as being ‘a human computer’ by the adjudicator as he handed over the prize for first place.
The team now progresses to the national semi-finals in Hertfordshire later this term.
